Street Pulse is a non-profit organization that works to identify and address homelessness and social issues by empowering marginalized voices; providing direct, concrete avenues through which homeless and low income individuals can help themselves and promoting communication and awareness throughout the Madison community. Much of this work is achieved through the publication and sales of Street Pulse Newspaper. Homeless people themselves contribute many of the articles, stories, editorials, art and poetry. The paper is distributed on the streets by homeless vendors, who keep 75% of the sale price ($1.00). The opportunity to sell a quality paper allows our vendors to gain valuable self-worth as it offers them not only easy employment, but also a chance to function as a part of the Madison community in a positive manner. As the organization expands Street Pulse hopes to improve organizational efficiency and streamline our financial development through fund-raising, thus allowing us to better serve the community and offer broader opportunities to our clients.
Fundraising is crucial this year if Street Pulse is to survive. We are looking for a motivated and outgoing volunteer to focus on cultivating and expanding our donor pool through high-profile fundraising events. Past events have included benefit concerts, lemonade stands, and the awareness-building Box City in Library Mall. The Event Planner will work with the Director to plan and implement new and effective ways to raise money and recruit donors. This is a part-time position, and the volunteer will be required to work off-site; phone, internet and office space will not be provided by Street Pulse. Time commitment: 20 hours per month.
This role oversees event planning, volunteer recruitment, managing event staff, talking with potential donors and creating a post-event report for the Director. More specifically, activities will include:
